MyMagic+: The Next Step in Improving the Guest Experience at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort® has announced a brand new initiate that will soon change the way that you experience the Disney Parks.  The new system, called MyMagic+, will utilize several new types of technology to allow you to make the most of your vacation time – including Fastpass+®, MagicBand, and the already-live Disney smart phone app (and website) My Disney Experience.   Here’s the best part – there is no additional charge for MyMagic+ to Guests!

Disney Fastpass+® Service will allow Guests to choose certain Fastpass+® attractions and entertainment that they would like to experience, and reserve a time to do so before they leave for their trip!  It is really just an “enhanced” Fastpass® – same concept and service as what is used today but done in advance instead of while you are at the park – but with a scheduled time.   Some of the entertainment options that may be included in the Fastpass+® Service include special firework and parade viewing areas, shows, and Disney Character Greetings.  For fireworks junkies like myself, those are some cool new options!

Worn on your wrist, the MagicBand gives Guests access to their vacation package components as well as Fastpass+® selections. Replacing the current Key to the World card, the MagicBand will unlock Walt Disney World® Resort hotel room doors,  be used to charge food and merchandise to your account, and will be the ticket to enter the Walt Disney World® Resort Theme Parks and Water Parks. The MagicBand also allows the Fastpass+® Service to be paperless!   I have read other articles where people are concerned over the security of the information, as well as issues with “Big Brother” watching over everything done while on vacation.  Guests will not be forced to use the MagicBand system, and people who do try it will decide how much information to share back with Disney.  An online options menu, for instance, will offer various controls: Do you want park employees to know your name? Do you want Disney to send you special offers when you get home? What about during your stay?

The other component, My Disney Experience, is where your trip comes together  – your room, dining and FastPass+ reservations, etc all in one place.  There are also GPS enabled Maps and accurate ride wait times, so you can plan out your next step as you are in the Parks.

Portions of MyMagic+ have been in testing over the past several months, and will begin to roll out slowly over the next couple months. Of course, like any new project of this magnitude, I am sure it will continue to evolve over time based on Guest and cast feedback.

For Guests who like to plan out every step of their vacation (or people who really like technology), MyMagic+ will be helpful.  For those who just like to wing it, it will probably be business as usual.  As for me – I am excited about these new changes and how they will compliment my already existing fee-free planning services!  I will soon receive training from Disney Parks about MyMagic+ and will be able to provide you more details about these enhancements before your upcoming trip.
